The International Academy of Ocularistry (IAO) is proud to celebrate its tenth anniversary! Founded with a vision to create a unique professional society, the IAO was established to complement existing ocularist organizations worldwide.

Our mission has always been to advance the field of ocularistry by fostering evidence-based research and promoting technological innovation. Over the past decade, we have remained committed to these goals, working together to elevate the profession and improve patient care globally.

As a specialized field with a relatively small professional community, conducting research and gathering statistical data in ocularistry has historically been a challenge. For this reason, we deeply appreciate the outstanding contributions of Keith Pine. His extensive work, including peer-reviewed research papers and a comprehensive book on ocular prosthetics, has significantly advanced the knowledge and understanding of our field.

We are honored that Keith has attended two of our past conferences as a speaker and has been recognized as an Honorary Fellow Member of the International Academy of Ocularistry. His dedication and contributions continue to inspire us all.

Ocularists from across the globe join the IAO, making it a truly international organization. Our members represent countries such as Argentina, Canada, Iraq, Spain, Morocco, Ireland, the United States, among others.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that planning is already underway for our next annual meeting, which will take place in the beautiful city of San Diego.

Here’s to the next decade of progress, innovation, and collaboration!

The IAO has just finished the 2025 Annual Meeting in Ft. Lauderdale with very interesting topics from speakers like Tom Johnson, MD, James Merritt, MD, Jennifer Murdock, MD and Ana Carolina Victoria, MD.

Join us for our next meeting in San Diego from January 31 to February 2, 2026

Evidence based practice is the practice of health care in which the practitioner systematically finds, appraises, and uses the most current and valid research findings as the basis for clinical decisions. The term is sometimes used to denote evidence-based medicine specifically but can also include other specialties, such as evidence-based nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.
